The National Dictation Contest will hold preliminary rounds nationwide in September, followed by the final competition at Gyeongbokgung Palace, where Hangeul was promulgated, during Hangeul Week (October 4 to October 10). The preliminaries are open to all citizens. Applications will be accepted from August 12 to August 25, and the preliminary round will take place on September 7. Participants who pass the preliminaries will compete for the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award in the finals in October by showcasing their dictation skills.
This contest was planned to provide an opportunity to reflect on the meaning and value of "Hangeul," which was introduced to the world 578 years ago, and to widely promote an easy and correct language culture in our society.
Under the slogan "Use Hangeul Correctly! Fall in Love with Hangeul!", this contest, held for the first time this year, is organized by the Korean Language and Culture Centers Federation and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Kim Deokho, president of the Korean Language and Culture Centers Federation, said, "When I hear the word 'dictation,' I vividly recall the notebooks from my childhood where teachers marked right or wrong with a red pencil after we wrote down sentences in Hangeul," adding, "I hope this contest will be a great opportunity for all of us to reconsider the preciousness of Hangeul and the beauty of our language."
