A high school student was caught by the police for driving 40km without a license using his mother's vehicle.
On the 9th, the Gimpo Police Station in Gyeonggi Province arrested and is investigating a teenager, identified as A, on charges of unlicensed driving under the Road Traffic Act, according to Yonhap News Agency. A is accused of driving a Volkswagen vehicle owned by his mother for about 40 kilometers from near Incheon Jemulpo Station, through the Incheon-Gimpo Expressway, to Gimpo around 7 a.m. that day. Two other teenagers, presumed to be A's friends, were also passengers in the vehicle at the time.

The police, who responded to the call, pursued the vehicle and eventually apprehended A on a road in Tongjin-eup, Gimpo. A reportedly told the police, "I secretly took my mom's car out." The police escorted A to a nearby police substation and handed him over to his family. A police official told Yonhap News Agency, "A did not drive under the influence, and he is not a juvenile offender under the law," adding, "We plan to summon A again soon to investigate the details."
Meanwhile, there was a recent case where a teenager was caught by the police after overturning a rental car while driving without a license. On the 23rd of last month, the Wonmi Police Station in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, announced that it is investigating a teenager, identified as B, on charges of unlicensed driving under the Road Traffic Act. B is accused of driving a rental car without a license at around 2:20 a.m. at the Sang-dong intersection in Wonmi-gu, Bucheon, and crashing into an apartment exterior wall and trees. Besides B, three other teenage passengers were in the rental car. The accident caused the rental car to overturn, injuring B and the three passengers, who are receiving treatment at a hospital. It was revealed that B caused the accident by turning left at the intersection and driving onto the sidewalk on the right side.

The police responded to a report from another driver who suspected "drunk driving" and apprehended B and others at the scene. The circumstances under which they rented the car despite not having a license have not been disclosed. A police official said, "B was not driving under the influence," and added, "It appears the accident was caused by inexperienced driving." B and the others are in stable condition, and the police plan to investigate them once they complete their treatment.
