K-Auction to Offer 7.5 Billion KRW Worth of Works by Kim Whanki, Yoo Youngkuk, Chagall, and Others in August Auction

Modern and contemporary works from Korea and abroad, Korean paintings and antiques, as well as luxury bags and jewelry will be featured in the K Auction August auction.
K Auction announced on the 9th that 122 pieces worth approximately 7.5 billion KRW, including works by Kim Whanki, Yoo Youngkuk, Yoon Hyongkeun, and Ha Chonghyun, will be offered at the August auction held on the 21st.
This auction will showcase major works of Korean abstract art, starting with Yoo Youngkuk’s 'Work,' which graces the auction catalog as a pioneer of Korean abstract art, Kim Whanki’s New York period works '14-IX-71' and 'Untitled,' as well as key pieces by Yoon Hyongkeun, Jung Sanghwa, and Ha Chonghyun seeking new owners.
Eight works by Lee Ufan, who is currently holding a solo exhibition in the garden of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Netherlands, will also be auctioned. Four works by Lee Bae, who held the 'Burning Moon House' exhibition as an official collateral event of this year’s Venice Biennale, and the painting 'Joy' by sculptor Kim Yoonshin, which sparked fierce competition in the previous auction, also attract attention.
Paris, where the Olympics are currently in full swing, is a city with a long history and tradition, and since the 19th century has been the birthplace of art movements producing numerous artists. This auction features works by 10 legendary artists who were active mainly in Paris. The representative work is Marc Chagall’s ‘Les Amoureux (The Lovers),’ expected to find a new owner in the range of 380 million to 1 billion KRW. In addition, works by contemporary Parisian artists such as Michel Delacroix, Robert Combas, Jean-Pierre Cassigneul, Jacques Martin-Ferri?res, Maurice de Vlaminck, Henri Matisse, Fran?ois Gall, Marie Laurencin, and Georges Rouault will also be available.
In the antiques category, paintings include Gyeomjae Jeong Seon’s 'Sosang Yau (Night Rain on the Xiao and Xiang Rivers)' from the Eight Views of Xiaoxiang, Lee Wonchan’s 'Tiger Painting,' Unbo Kim Kigchang’s 'Blue-Green Landscape,' and Sojung Byun Gwansik’s 'Autumn Landscape,' along with calligraphy works such as Chusa Kim Jeonghee’s 'Sigo' and Baekbeom Kim Gu’s 'Saphilgwijeong.'
Notably, this auction also features seven pieces of Cartier jewelry and watches, as well as bags from Herm?s and Christian Dior, seeking new owners.
