Imagination Up, Fun Up... Additional Selection of Busan Children's Complex Cultural Space
Four New Project Sites Selected... Total Project Cost 4.1 Billion Won
Now 104 Sites Established Within 15-Minute Living Zones
Busan City has selected four additional new locations for the Busan Children's Complex Cultural Space 'Deullaknalak'.
At 2 p.m. on the 8th, the 'Busan Metropolitan City Children's Complex Cultural Space Establishment Committee' held its second meeting and selected additional new locations.
As of August this year, 55 'Deullaknalak' centers have opened, 45 are under construction, and with the addition of these four new locations, the total will reach 104.
'Deullaknalak' is a unique complex cultural space in Busan, located within a 15-minute living radius, where children and parents can safely enjoy a variety of content (books, immersive digital content, media art, etc.) and various programs reflecting local characteristics.
After on-site visits and evaluations, a total of four locations were selected by size: one large site (over 1,000㎡) and three medium sites (over 330㎡).
In June and July, the city accepted applications for new project sites from districts and counties.
A total project budget of 4.1 billion KRW (2.9 billion from the city, 1.2 billion from districts/counties) will be invested in these four newly selected locations.
By region, one site each was selected in Dong-gu, Buk-gu, Saha-gu, and Gijang-gun.
In Dong-gu, the 'Children's English Library' will be transformed into a space that satisfies children's interests and curiosity by establishing new media content and various experiential zones.
In Buk-gu, the closed school being remodeled as part of a living social infrastructure (SOC) complex project, 'Deokcheon Library,' will be developed into a children's complex cultural space and a future education center, creating a diverse educational and experiential venue for local children and residents.
In Saha-gu, among 15 small libraries, 'Dangri Small Library' has the highest usage rate but is mainly used for book lending due to outdated facilities. It will be reborn as a future-oriented library with science-specialized experiential spaces and digital content.
In Gijang-gun, 'Ilgwang Library' is scheduled to open in July 2025, and will feature a digital learning space and a star-themed experiential center as specialized content, offering programs such as stargazing experiences.
The city plans to actively discover project sites for the 'Deullaknalak' children's complex cultural space for the '15-Minute City Busan' initiative through private sector cooperation in addition to public applications, and will focus on strengthening the operation of unique 'Deullaknalak' content such as 'Let's Play with English at Deullaknalak' and the creative convergence program 'Kkomamaekoseu'.
Kim Guiok, Director of the City Youth-Industry-Academic Bureau, stated, "With the selection of these new project sites, outdated and empty spaces will be transformed into diverse experiential spaces for children," and added, "We will continue to actively discover unused and aging public facilities and develop them into 'Deullaknalak', a joyful space filled with children's laughter, while striving for substantial and effective operation."
Individuals and groups who wish to find information about a 'Deullaknalak' near their home or participate in programs operated at 'Deullaknalak' can use the Busan Children's Complex Cultural Space integrated platform.
