Seongdong-gu Operates 'Smart Policy Tour Program'
Smart Crosswalks, Smart Shelters, Smart Smoking Booths, Smart Rainwater Drains, and More Can Be Linked with Popular Seongsu-dong Attractions... Systematic Facility Tours During Visits to Other Local Governments and Institutions Enhance Promotion, Serving as an Opportunity to Spread the Excellence of Seongdong-gu's Smart Policies
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) has planned and officially launched the ‘Smart Policy Tour Program’ to widely promote the excellence of the smart policies being implemented in the district and to enhance the effectiveness of publicity.
Seongdong-gu is proactively implementing various smart projects that incorporate smart technologies to resolve daily inconveniences and increase resident satisfaction.
Representative examples include the ‘Smart Shelter,’ which protects public transportation users from fine dust, heatwaves, and cold waves while providing convenience functions; the ‘Smart Crosswalk,’ which ensures pedestrian safety through advanced technology; and the ‘Smart Smoking Booth,’ which blocks the external leakage of cigarette smoke with negative pressure equipment. Also notable are the ‘Smart Rainwater Drain,’ which automatically opens and closes during rain to prevent sewer odors and flooding damage, and the ‘Smart City Integrated Control Center,’ which builds an urban safety network in cooperation with related agencies such as police and fire stations.
Seongdong-gu’s diverse smart policies are being benchmarked not only by other local governments but also by several overseas cities. Over the past two years, delegations from Yeosu City, Bayangol District in Mongolia, Novi Sad in Serbia, the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Chairpersons in Japan, and a policy training group from Lima, Peru, have visited and directly experienced these facilities.
The district did not stop there and planned the ‘Smart Policy Tour Program’ as an effort to further spread the excellence of its smart policies. It is expected to enhance the effectiveness of policy promotion by enabling more systematic facility tours during visits by other local governments and institutions.
The policy tour program operates on a course starting from the district office’s Smart City Integrated Control Center, followed by visits to the Smart Crosswalk, Smart Shelter, Smart Smoking Booth, and Smart Rainwater Drain, taking about 30 minutes.
Another course links popular spots in Seongsu-dong, adding the Red Brick Road, Understand Avenue, Daerim Warehouse, and Yeonmujang-gil within Seongsu-dong, taking about 90 minutes. During the facility tours, a responsible official from the relevant department accompanies visitors to provide detailed guidance.
The district is also considering operating the ‘Smart Policy Tour Program’ in connection with Seongdong cultural tourism guides for tourists visiting Seongsu-dong.
