Proposals Including Countermeasures for Electric Vehicle Fire Incidents
Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, proposed on the 5th that laws for electricity bill reductions for vulnerable groups be processed through bipartisan agreement. He unusually mentioned not only bills from ruling party lawmakers but also those from opposition lawmakers, demonstrating a willingness for bipartisan cooperation on livelihood issues.
At the People Power Party's Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Han said, "The continuous heatwaves have caused severe damage to the people," adding, "I believe it is necessary to close the gap between vulnerable groups and others regarding the damage caused by the heatwaves." He continued, "Our party's lawmaker Jeong Dong-man has proposed a bill to establish a legal basis for reducing electricity charges," and said, "Since Democratic Party lawmakers Park Ju-min and Jeon Jae-su have also proposed similar bills, we will strive to quickly reach an agreement to handle this as a bipartisan livelihood bill."
He also expressed the ruling party and government’s determination to resolve the issue. He added, "We will discuss measures together between the party and government to reduce the burden of electricity bills during the heatwave period."
Furthermore, he showed a proactive stance regarding measures against inflation caused by the heatwave.

He also mentioned the electric vehicle fire accident in the underground parking lot in Cheongna, Incheon, stating, "The number of registered electric vehicles in our country currently stands at about 607,000," and noted, "There are criticisms that the speed of systems and regulations does not accurately keep up with the pace of distribution." He added, "The party will take the lead in finding ways to alleviate public safety concerns and worries without hindering technological development."
