The artistic director who oversaw the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics has filed a complaint with the investigative authorities over a series of malicious comments on social media, AFP reported on the 2nd (local time).
The Paris prosecutor's office explained that director Thomas Jolly, who was in charge of the opening ceremony performance, submitted a complaint alleging death threats based on sexual orientation and origin, public insults, and defamation, and that the investigation has been assigned to the department handling crimes against humanity and hate crimes.

Director Jolly has been continuously attacked online since the drag queen scene in the opening ceremony sparked controversy.
He explained that the scene depicted Greek gods enjoying a festival on Mount Olympus, but religious circles criticized it as mocking Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper.
Barbara Butch, a DJ and LGBTQ+ activist who stood at the center of the stage wearing a blue dress during the performance, has also been subjected to cyber attacks and recently took legal action.
The Paris Olympic Organizing Committee strongly condemned the various threats against Director Jolly and other performers, stating to AFP, "We stand with them against attacks targeting them."
