Korea GM's July Exports Halved Compared to Previous Month... Impact of Strike Production Disruptions
Korea GM's export volume in July dropped to half compared to the previous month. This was due to production disruptions caused by maintenance of production facilities last month and strikes resulting from difficulties in wage and collective bargaining negotiations.
On the 1st, Korea GM announced that it sold a total of 22,564 units in the global market during July. This represents a 44% decrease compared to the same month last year and a 53% decrease compared to June, the previous month.
In particular, in overseas markets, Korea GM sold 20,365 units in July, down 44% year-on-year. Models exported from Korea, such as the Chevrolet Trax crossover and Chevrolet Trailblazer (including derivative models), are so popular that they recorded a 42.4% market share in the U.S. small SUV market in the first half of this year.
Domestic sales in July totaled 2,199 units, down 46% year-on-year but up 15% compared to the previous month. The Chevrolet Trax crossover led domestic sales with 1,606 units sold, while the Chevrolet Tahoe maintained steady market response with a 14.3% increase compared to the same month last year.
Additionally, the Chevrolet Colorado recorded sales of 65 units, marking a 3,150% increase compared to the previous month. The premium authentic American pickup truck Colorado, evolved into its third generation through a full change, is equipped with a sophisticated design, high-performance powertrain, and advanced options. It recently sold out its initial supply within just one day of its domestic launch.
Gustavo Colosi, Vice President of Sales, Service, and Marketing at Korea GM, said, "From the Trax crossover to the all-new Colorado, the Chevrolet brand continuously offers a diverse lineup that meets the lifestyles of domestic customers. Since demand remains high both domestically and internationally, we will continue to provide differentiated benefits to customers through various marketing activities."
