Nonsan Secures 2.5 Billion Won in Special Grants... Establishing Disaster Safety Network
Baek Seonghyeon, the mayor of Nonsan City in Chungnam Province, has attracted nearly 1 trillion won in investments in the defense and tourism industries within two years of taking office. In addition, the city has secured 2.5 billion won in special grants, which is expected to strengthen its disaster safety network.
In particular, 1.2 billion won has been allocated for the construction of the Buchang-dong Bandabi Sports Center, a long-awaited project for local residents, which is expected to accelerate the progress of key initiatives.
On the 31st, Nonsan City announced that it had secured 2.5 billion won in special grants for several projects: the construction of the Buchang-dong Bandabi Sports Center (1.2 billion won), maintenance of the Dongheung Drainage Pump Station (600 million won), repair and reinforcement of Gongun Bridge (200 million won), and the creation of the Ganggyeong-eup Vitality Center (500 million won).
In April, Mayor Baek Seonghyeon explained the city’s poor financial situation to Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sangmin and requested financial support to push forward major pending projects.
The city also plans to expand its safety network to minimize disaster damages and build infrastructure to improve quality of life.
In addition, due to successive large-scale investments by defense companies, the city is promoting the establishment of its own military supply industrial complex covering 1 million pyeong in connection with the national industrial complex.
Mayor Baek stated, “At a time when it is difficult to secure national funding due to the government’s fiscal tightening, cooperating with central government officials and actively promoting Nonsan City’s urgent needs through sales administration has produced good results. I will continue to work in the field to create a city environment where citizens can live happily and safely.”
