Busan Office of Education Promotes 'Elementary School Autonomous Time in Full Bloom'
Expansion of Autonomy in Curriculum Development and Operation
Support for Student-Centered Customized Programs
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will distribute its self-developed resource, "2022 Revised Curriculum: Blossoming Elementary School Autonomy Time," to elementary schools in August.
This resource is designed to assist with the implementation of school autonomy time, which will be introduced for the first time next year.
The 2022 Revised Curriculum's Elementary School Autonomy Time is being introduced to expand the autonomy in designing and operating school curricula, allowing the educational community to run distinctive programs that reflect the needs of the local community, schools, and students. It will be applied to grades 3 and 4 in the 2025 academic year, and to grades 3 through 6 starting from the 2026 academic year.
The resource includes guidelines for organizing and operating elementary school autonomy time, procedures for establishing and approving subjects (activities), a Q&A section, and examples of research cases from curriculum research schools and study groups related to school autonomy time.
Since October last year through the first half of this year, the city office of education has made efforts to ensure the successful implementation of the 2022 revised curriculum in schools by providing on-site training, developing and distributing materials to aid understanding of the revised curriculum, and offering training on elementary school autonomy time.
