NCSoft announced on the 30th that it will make an initial investment of $3.5 million (approximately 4.8 billion KRW) in the Sweden-based startup game developer Moon Rover Games.
Moon Rover Games is a game development studio founded in 2022 in Stockholm, Sweden, with Julien Vella, formerly of EA DICE, serving as CEO. All founding members are former EA DICE employees who have participated in the development of globally successful FPS games such as the Battlefield series, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s The Division.
Moon Rover Games is currently developing a new IP cooperative FPS title called Project Aldous for PC and consoles. NCSoft is the sole participant in Moon Rover Games’ seed round investment, providing the necessary funds for the development of Project Aldous.
Starting with this investment, the two companies will establish a long-term partnership and pursue strategic collaboration. Depending on the project’s progress at each stage, they are discussing various cooperation plans including additional investments and publishing rights.
Park Byeong-mu, co-CEO of NCSoft, stated, “NCSoft is actively seeking companies with genre expertise and development capabilities to create new markets. Moon Rover Games, our first investment target, is a highly potential company continuing new attempts based on its expertise in the shooting game genre.”
He added, “Project Aldous will be complementary to NCSoft’s projects in terms of genre and region. We expect this investment to contribute to building regional development clusters worldwide and expanding the global market.”
NCSoft is currently focusing on investing in domestic and international companies and securing publishing rights that can contribute to its game portfolio and global market expansion. The company plans to continue investments considering ▲region ▲genre ▲platform expansion to secure new growth engines. At the same time, it is also reviewing M&A to enhance company growth and profitability.
