Goheung 'Solbawi Garden' Wins Excellence Award in Pretty Garden Contest

Residential Garden Harmonizing Over 70 Species of Trees and Rocks

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that 'Solbawi Garden' located in Okgang-ri, Podu-myeon, won the Excellence Award in the Living Area Garden category at the Jeollanam-do Beautiful Garden Contest.

The 'Beautiful Garden Contest' hosted by Jeollanam-do has been discovering privately maintained gardens since 2020 to promote garden culture in daily life and to brand garden tourism. Winners are selected annually through document screening and on-site evaluation.

The 'Solbawi Garden,' which won the Excellence Award this time, is located overlooking the vast Haechangman Plain with the spectacular rocky cliffs of Maboksan Mountain as its backdrop. The garden was first created in 1976 by the owner’s father, Jeong Il-nam (74), and is currently managed by the second generation as a living area garden.

In particular, the garden was designed with minimal artificial structures, themed around pine forests and rocks, covering an area of about 6,000 pyeong (approximately 19,834 square meters). It features five themes including walking trails, a lawn plaza, forest shade, cherry blossom forest, and a pond.

The garden owner, Jeong Ji-hyun (54), said, “I am pleased that the garden, which my father and I have carefully nurtured for decades, has been recognized. We will continue to maintain Solbawi Garden as a beautiful place where local residents and visitors can heal.”

A county official stated, “We will continue to discover beautiful gardens cultivated by residents to contribute to our county’s tourism industry and actively strive to revitalize private gardens.”
