Actor accused of school violence leaves drama... Court orders agency to pay production company 1.4 billion won
Jisoo, School Violence Controversy During Appearance in 'The Moon Rising River'
A court ruling has ordered the former agency of actor Jisoo (real name Kim Jisoo), who starred in the KBS drama 'The Moon Rising River' and withdrew amid a school violence controversy, to compensate the drama production company over 1.42 billion KRW.
The Civil Agreement Division 31 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Sang-woo) ruled on the 25th in a damages lawsuit filed by the drama production company Victory Contents against Jisoo's former agency KeyEast, stating, "The defendant shall pay the plaintiff approximately 1.42 billion KRW and delayed interest," partially ruling in favor of the plaintiff. The specific reasons for the ruling were not explained in court.
Earlier, in March 2021, when the KBS 2TV Monday-Tuesday drama 'The Moon Rising River' had aired up to episode 6, allegations of school violence against Jisoo, who played the male lead On Dal, surfaced. At that time, a netizen A, who claimed to be a schoolmate of Jisoo, posted on an online community, "Kim Jisoo is currently appearing on TV with his characteristic smile pretending to be kind, but he is nothing more or less than a school violence perpetrator, a thug, and a delinquent."
As the school violence controversy spread, Jisoo immediately withdrew from the drama voluntarily. Afterwards, Jisoo posted a handwritten apology on Instagram, saying, "I sincerely apologize to those who suffered because of me. There is no excuse for the misdeeds I committed in the past," and added, "These were unforgivable actions." He continued, "I deeply repent to those who have suffered for a long time watching me work as an actor, and I will reflect on and regret my past that can never be erased."

At that time, filming had been completed up to episode 18 out of a total of 20 episodes. The production company brought in actor Na In-woo as a replacement from episode 7 onward and resumed production, and after the drama stabilized, episodes 1 to 6 were also re-filmed. Subsequently, Victory Contents filed a lawsuit against KeyEast, Jisoo's agency at the time, demanding compensation of 3 billion KRW for additional production costs due to the re-filming.
