Gwangju Seo-gu Installs 'Smart Reflective Mirrors' Around Hwajeong Neighborhood Park
Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 25th that it has installed Gwangju's first smart convex mirror in the Hwajeong Neighborhood Park area, a frequent site of traffic accidents in residential areas.
This section is a densely populated residential area with many parked vehicles and a slope, making it difficult for drivers going uphill to identify oncoming vehicles and pedestrians, resulting in frequent contact accidents.

This year, Seo-gu secured a budget of 70 million KRW to install a smart convex mirror that captures real-time video of the uphill situation from the opposite direction and provides guidance through an LED display board.
Through this project, the traffic blind spots that made it difficult for drivers to secure visibility have been resolved, turning on the green light for the safety of both pedestrians and drivers.
Drivers who frequently use this section said, "We were anxious because we couldn't see the situation on the opposite side, but now we can use the road safely and comfortably," and added, "We hope that this administration, which finds solutions from the residents' perspective rather than administrative convenience, will expand to other autonomous districts."
Park Yoonchul, Director of the Construction Department, stated, "We will strive to resolve citizens' inconveniences through field-centered administration and create a safe Seo-gu," and added, "Protecting residents' lives is the first step toward realizing a kind city Seo-gu, and we will do our best with this determination."
