Ulsan City Accelerates Construction of Secondary Battery Integrated Support Center
A total investment of 21 billion KRW... Completion targeted for 2028
Establishing a full-cycle support network for secondary battery specialized complex
Ulsan City is set to establish an Integrated Secondary Battery Support Center to build a comprehensive support network for the entire lifecycle of the secondary battery specialized complex.
The Integrated Support Center is one of the five major strategies and thirteen key tasks being promoted following Ulsan's designation as a "National Advanced Strategic Industry Secondary Battery Specialized Complex" in July 2023. The center is being established to support the construction of the secondary battery industry ecosystem.
The five major strategies are: building a full-cycle support network for secondary batteries, securing super-gap technological capabilities, establishing a system for training advanced technology innovation personnel, building a value chain-linked cooperation platform, and improving regulations and systems to vitalize the industry.
The total project cost is approximately 21 billion KRW (20.5 billion KRW from the city, 500 million KRW from private investment). Detailed design will begin in October, with completion targeted for 2028.
To maximize synergy with secondary battery support organizations such as Ulsan Technopark and UNIST, the center will be constructed within the Techno General Industrial Complex, where there is high utilization of technology support infrastructure and easy access to technology development, equipment utilization, and workforce training support.
The main facilities will include spaces for secondary battery equipment, company offices, educational areas, and meeting rooms.
Once construction is complete, Ulsan Technopark will operate the center, supporting businesses through startup assistance, shared equipment operation, technology development planning and discovery, and workforce training related to secondary batteries.
In particular, the center is expected to play a key role in accelerating the development of next-generation super-gap secondary battery technologies, in conjunction with projects promoted by Ulsan City such as: the establishment of a performance verification platform for high-power secondary battery materials and components, the creation of a high-efficiency process base for lithium iron phosphate batteries, and the development and demonstration of next-generation secondary battery materials.
