Provincial Audit Committee Official: "Audit to Begin Soon"
Chungnam Province will conduct a special audit regarding illegal activities related to the development of a recreation area by Kim Kiwung, the governor of Seocheon County, and his family.
According to an Asia Economy investigation on the 24th, the Chungnam Provincial Audit Committee is set to launch a special audit into illegal acts involving Governor Kim and his family.
Governor Kim and his family applied for a development permit on January 19 for the purpose of establishing a recreation area at 527-1, 530-5, and 538 Deogam-ri, Maseo-myeon, and received the permit on February 1. It was confirmed that the land in question is owned by Governor Kim, his wife, and their children.
However, while carrying out related construction, Governor Kim's family illegally converted farmland and forest land and illegally buried 130 tons of mixed waste, sparking controversy.
This fact was revealed during an administrative audit by Seocheon County Council member Lee Kangsun in June. At that time, a county official responded, "It was a mistake. It was a work-related error," and added, "We will take responsibility within the scope we can."
A representative of the Provincial Audit Committee stated, "We cannot disclose the audit schedule, but we plan to begin the audit as soon as possible."
