In a post late at night on the 18th on his social media (SNS), Governor Kim wrote, "The first anniversary of the death in the line of duty of the late Sergeant Chae Su-geun," and expressed his thoughts, saying, "The heartfelt eulogy from the surviving senior Marine remains in my heart."
He then shared the senior Marine's eulogy.
"A year has passed, but the situation remains stagnant. The police, instead, handed over the person who saved me from drowning to the prosecution and cleared Division Commander Im Seong-geun of charges."
Governor Kim said, "The senior Marine also said in the eulogy that although he is afraid, more people need to know the truth," and added, "What is the state doing to these young Marines? For 'justice and freedom,' the government must now respond to the courageous testimonies of the Marines."
Earlier that day, Governor Kim attended the 'Chae Sergeant 1st Anniversary Military Death Victims Memorial Candlelight Cultural Festival' held from 6:30 p.m. He also visited the Daejeon National Cemetery in Jang-dong, Daejeon, on the 13th to pay respects at the graves of Marines including Sergeant Chae Mo, who died in the line of duty while searching for missing persons during heavy rains.
