Man in 30s Sentenced to 1 Year and 6 Months for Supplying SIM Cards to Voice Phishing Gang
74 Throws Delivered Using Throwing Technique
A man in his 30s who supplied SIM cards to a voice phishing organization was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
According to the legal community on the 20th, Judge Jeong Eun-young of the Seoul Eastern District Court Criminal Division 12 sentenced Kwon (34), who was indicted for violating the Telecommunications Business Act, to 1 year and 6 months in prison on the 11th.
The court stated the sentencing reason, saying, "(The defendant's) crime provided means for voice phishing, and the nature of the crime is very serious," and "Despite having a prior conviction and imprisonment for voice phishing crimes, he committed the crime again."
Earlier, in December last year, Kwon received a proposal from a voice phishing organization member he met through an online messenger to supply SIM cards in exchange for a fee. Accordingly, in April, he purchased 74 SIM cards from several daily goods stores around Sokcho, Gangwon-do, and placed them in nearby apartment mailboxes using the so-called 'throwing method.'
