Gwangju Seo-gu Conducts Capacity Building Training for Our Neighborhood Care Team
Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 19th that it conducted capacity-building training to enhance communication skills for 82 members of the Our Neighborhood Care Group and about 20 public officials in charge of district-customized welfare at the Seo-gu Office Deulbul Hall.

The Our Neighborhood Care Group plays a role in investigating solitary death judgments for individuals at risk of social isolation and supports welfare service connections such as regular check-ins, monitoring, and accompanying external activities for those confirmed as high-risk.
In particular, since the launch ceremony in February, they have conducted 7,337 home visits, 10,451 phone check-ins, and 1,578 service connections for 1,563 socially isolated households.
The training on this day was conducted by instructor Kim Dongyeop, a specialist from the Citizen Education Content Research Institute, covering topics such as ▲realistic awareness of solitary death ▲understanding socially isolated households ▲prevention of solitary death through smooth communication with residents ▲case practice to strengthen on-site communication skills.
Additionally, Park Sangha, an instructor from the Health Life Support Center, provided suicide prevention life keeper training to identify high-risk groups for suicide.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, “Through the dedicated and responsible activities of the Our Neighborhood Care Group, we have actively discovered and supported socially isolated households and families in crisis in Seo-gu, preventing solitary deaths. We will continue to build a dense welfare safety net so that lonely residents can move from isolation to recovery.”
