Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Establishes Largest Ever 'Korea House' in Paris
Operated as a Complex Cultural Space Conveying the Charm of Han Culture
On the 19th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that it will establish the largest-ever 'Korea House' in Paris, France, where the Summer Olympics will be held. It will serve as a hub to support the athletes and sports diplomacy. Korea House has been operated since the 2004 Athens Olympics.
During the 2018 Indonesia Asian Para Games, Korea House was opened in Jakarta, Indonesia to promote Korea's excellent culture and support the athletes. View original imageThe Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee will create a complex cultural space that showcases the diverse charms of Korean culture to the world. Together with fifteen private and public institutions, they will present exhibitions, experiential events, and performances.
The main promotional focus is Korean tourism. From the 27th to the 31st, experiential content such as K-pop dance classes, Korean snack packages, Korean makeup demonstrations, and personalized color diagnosis will be offered.
There will also be a joint dance performance by Korean and French youth titled 'Project Son,' themed around the Olympic spirit of harmony and friendship. Choreographer Eunmi Ahn serves as the artistic director, guiding youth from the Ahn Eunmi Company and the local nonprofit dance group Dapopa.
The Korea Craft & Design Foundation will hold a hanbok fashion show, and the National Ballet Company will introduce Korean ballet. The Korea Publication Culture Industry Promotion Agency will promote the international status of Korean literature through events such as a live painting show by picture book author Kihoon Lee and a book concert.
Permanent exhibitions will feature participation from the Korea Creative Content Agency, Korea Tourism Organization, Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange, Korea Ceramic Foundation, HYBE, CJ, and others. They will introduce major domestic tourist attractions and cultural tourism events visited by K-pop singers and promote various Korean ceramics. Media art utilizing new technology convergence content and booths recreating Korean street food stalls will also be showcased.
The original functions of supporting athletes and conducting sports diplomacy will be faithfully carried out. During the event, rest areas for athletes will be operated, and spaces to cheer for Korean athletes’ competitions will be provided. Celebratory events and interviews will be supported when medals are won. Additionally, on the 1st of next month, international organizations including the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will be invited to promote international sports exchanges.

A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official said, "This is the first time Korea House is operated on such a large scale with direct participation from related organizations," adding, "We will not only support the athletes and sports diplomacy functions but also widely promote Korean culture to the world visiting the Olympics."
