Uljugun Mental Health Welfare Center Selected as an Excellent Suicide Prevention Case by the Ministry of Health and Welfare
Commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare at the Suicide Prevention Day Ceremony
Uljugun Mental Health Welfare Center announced on the 15th that it has been selected as an 'Outstanding Suicide Prevention Case among Local Governments in 2023,' an award organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
As a result of this selection, the center will receive a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare at the 'Suicide Prevention Day' ceremony to be held on September 10.
This marks the second consecutive year of recognition, following Uljugun Public Health Center's award as an outstanding institution on Suicide Prevention Day last year.
Uljugun Mental Health Welfare Center was chosen as an outstanding institution for its 'Suicide Prevention Program for Young Adults.'
To address the recent increase in suicide rates among people in their 20s and 30s and the issue of lonely deaths among single-person households, the county has implemented various region-specific initiatives.
The center operates a virtual space metaverse suicide prevention service and runs the program 'N Honja Sanda' for single-person households, sharing activities such as exercise, sleep management, and cooking remotely to help build social connections.
Additionally, 'Life Keeper' training, which identifies individuals at risk of suicide and connects them to relevant agencies, was incorporated into liberal arts courses at a local university (UNIST). QR code mini banners were installed at convenience stores and university cafes to facilitate easy mental health self-assessment, aiding in the identification of high-risk youth groups.
