Busan Transportation Corporation is recruiting participants for the Citizen Train Operator Experience Event until the 24th of this month.
View original imageThe Citizen Train Operator Experience Event was established to enhance public understanding of train operator duties and to promote a safe urban rail transit culture. Since its first event in 2007, this year marks the 16th edition, offering citizens the opportunity to indirectly experience the work of train operators at the railway site. Over the past 15 years, approximately 1,589 citizens have participated, enjoying informative and engaging programs.
Participants will be assigned as follows: 30 for Line 1, 30 for Line 2, and 20 for Line 3. At each line's vehicle depot (Nopo, Hopo, Daejeo), they will take part in activities such as: ▲ tours of the driving control room and safety experience center, train driving simulator experiences ▲ observation of electric train start-up demonstrations in the vehicle depot ▲ indirect driving experiences with train operators ▲ and urban rail transit integrity quizzes. Notably, this year’s event will allow participants to experience the newly introduced Line 1 electric trains.
Citizens wishing to participate can apply by selecting their preferred line on the Busan Transportation Corporation website until the night of the 24th. Any citizen of Busan, Yangsan, or Gimhae with an interest in urban rail transit is eligible to apply. However, children under 12 must be accompanied by a guardian at the event. The corporation will select 80 participants through a computerized lottery and announce the results on the 30th.
Additionally, to help youth explore career paths, the corporation will host an event for 25 local high school students in Busan on the 23rd and 24th of this month, introducing railway-related careers such as train operators and providing academic counseling with staff.
Since 2015, the corporation has provided approximately 2,800 career experience education sessions. Its ongoing educational donation activities have resulted in achievements such as being the first urban rail operator in the country to receive the Ministry of Education’s ‘Career Experience Institution Certification,’ winning the Education Donation Award, and receiving the Busan City and City Office of Education Education Mecenat Top Award for six consecutive years.
