On this day, Governor Kim, along with Park Woo-ryang, Mayor of Sinan County, visited 'Purple Island' in Sinan County, Jeollanam-do. He explained the reason for the visit, saying, "While thinking about how to support Sinan County, we decided to provide Gyeonggi Province's roses, which are heavily exported, free of charge to cover Purple Island with purple roses, and began cooperation with Sinan County."
He added, "I pledged to make Sinan County a pilgrimage site for tourism."
Currently, as part of a win-win cooperation with Jeollanam-do, Gyeonggi Province has been selling Sinan's rockfish, Wando abalone, Haenam seaweed, and Naju melons at the ‘Market Gyeonggi: Gyeonggi-Jeonnam Win-Win Corner’ since the 8th.
Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for Gyeonggi Province who accompanied Governor Kim, explained, "Gyeonggi Province is the ‘eldest brother’ among local governments. Governor Kim Dong-yeon's idea is that as the eldest brother, Gyeonggi Province will help Jeonnam's economic growth and create a model for ‘balanced regional development.’"
After visiting Purple Island, Governor Kim also visited Haewi Island in Sinan County. Haewi Island is the birthplace of former President Kim Dae-jung (DJ), a ‘giant of Korean politics.’ This year marks the 100th anniversary of DJ's birth.
Governor Kim recalled, "As my official first step in running for governor, I visited the grave of former President Kim Dae-jung at the National Cemetery to express my commitment to ‘inheriting the spirit of the Democratic Party.’ I also have a connection with former President Kim Dae-jung, having worked closely as an aide to the Chief Presidential Secretary during the People’s Government era."
A month earlier, Governor Kim visited Gangjin and Mokpo. At that time, he visited the former Mokpo Commercial High School, the alma mater of former President Kim, and said, "I also came from a humble background and graduated from Deoksu Commercial High School." He added, "While offering flowers and reflecting, I thought a lot. President Kim Dae-jung gave us three great coordinates: democracy, people's livelihood, and peace. I have framed the president’s philosophy of ‘believing in the people and history until the very end’ in my office."
