He added, "The image Lee has shown so far has been solely focused on agitation through populist policies and political strife to cover his own judicial risks," and criticized, "He turned the National Assembly into a chaotic battleground of impeachment and political strife, and now makes an empty declaration of Meoksanism, which is an insult to the people."
On the 10th, at a press conference announcing his candidacy for re-election as party leader, former leader Lee said, "Solving the people's livelihood issues should be the only ideology, Meoksanism," and "Recovery of growth and sustainable growth are the core of livelihood and Meoksanism."
Choo said, "The day before, former leader Lee called for the impeachment of four prosecutors, including three investigating him, citing a supposed rebellion," and added, "Democratic Party lawmakers, who are competing in loyalty to Lee, are going further by pushing for the abolition of the Prosecutor's Office as party policy." He continued, "This legislative rampage shows they are willing to destroy South Korea's judicial system entirely to save Lee Jae-myung," and emphasized, "If former leader Lee is truly sincere about solving the people's livelihood issues, he should declare a halt to political strife, legislative rampage, prosecutor impeachment, and presidential impeachment attempts, and engage in healthy policy competition and cooperation with the government and ruling party to address livelihood issues."
The People Power Party expressed both welcome and skepticism regarding former leader Lee's mention the day before of the need for fundamental review of the comprehensive real estate tax and the possibility of postponing the financial investment income tax.
Jung Jeom-sik, chairman of the Policy Committee, said at the meeting, "If (former leader Lee's) remarks are sincere, they are welcome," but added, "Given the Democratic Party's previous cautious behavior, there is skepticism about how genuine these statements are."
Chairman Jung said, "Since May, when Democratic Party floor leader Park Chan-dae mentioned the need to abolish the comprehensive real estate tax for owner-occupied single households, the party has only raised the issue of reforming the tax and shown indecisiveness," and added, "Until recently, they distorted the true intent of the ruling party's need for reform by framing it as a tax cut for the wealthy and exploited it for their political gain." Regarding the financial investment income tax, he criticized, "Despite claims that if the government and ruling party forcibly implement it without considering the changed capital market situation in Korea, 14 million investors, mostly middle class, will be harmed, the Democratic Party has insisted on pushing forward with the tax by using a shortsighted argument that the basic exemption of 50 million won limits the number of affected people."
