From Pohang Coast Guard to Local SMEs

Contributing to the Competitiveness of Local Public and Private Organizations

POSCO Pohang Steelworks is spreading its unique innovation method, QSS, throughout the Pohang community by providing innovation leader training to local companies and public institutions.

The QSS (Quick Six Sigma) method is an activity that maximizes production efficiency by identifying and improving waste and risk factors on site, and it originates from POSCO's own unique way of working.

On the 10th, Pohang Steelworks conducted "Innovation Safety Leader Training" for employees of the Pohang Maritime Police Station, enabling them to learn POSCO's advanced safety culture.

Last month, in-depth training was provided for employees of local small and medium-sized enterprises participating in the Innovation Hub QSS activities, facilitating an exchange of POSCO's unique work culture with public and private organizations in Pohang.

The Innovation Safety Leader Training held at the POSCO Global Safety Center was conducted in accordance with the "Innovation Hub QSS Activity Business Agreement" signed in March between Pohang Steelworks and the Pohang Maritime Police Station.

A total of 21 employees from the Pohang Maritime Police Station participated in this training, which focused on "training safety experts to spread a safety culture." Through education on risk prediction activities and risk assessment, participants had the opportunity to learn about POSCO's safety culture.

This training was also attended by 14 "Innovation Pioneers," who are leading figures in departmental innovation at the Pohang Maritime Police Station. It is expected that these Innovation Pioneers will acquire a safety culture and bring about positive changes within the maritime police.

Additionally, from the 26th to the 28th of last month, "Advanced Innovation Leader Training" was held at the Pohang Guryongpo Training Center for employees of local small and medium-sized enterprises participating in Innovation Hub QSS activities.

The advanced innovation leader training focused on performance-driven project activities to promote successful QSS activities in small and medium-sized enterprises. Twenty-five innovation leaders from fifteen companies who had completed the basic QSS training participated in the program.

The advanced training provided practical knowledge to participants by focusing on real-life examples that could be immediately applied in the field, such as understanding and practicing QSS activities and projects, process and task analysis, and loss analysis for setup and changeover.

Hong Mingyu, an innovation leader from Kwangwoo, said, "Through hands-on training in process and task analysis, I was able to fully acquire POSCO's unique technology and know-how. In the workplace, there are many occasions to carry out process and task improvement activities, and I believe what I learned in this training will be very helpful each time."

Since first launching the Innovation Hub QSS activities in 2011, Pohang Steelworks has supported a total of 442 local organizations and small and medium-sized enterprises over 13 years, nurturing a total of 549 innovation leaders.
