Two Killed in Seocheon and Nonsan as Heavy Rain Hits Chungnam Overnight

Chungnam Province Issues Emergency Level 2, Urgent Restoration in Vulnerable Areas
Two people died in Seocheon and Nonsan after heavy rainstorms hit the Chungnam region overnight.
According to Chungnam Province officials on the 10th, a landslide occurred at 3:57 a.m. in Seocheon County, causing a house to collapse. The victim, identified as A, was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but did not survive.
Earlier, at around 3:00 a.m. the same day, a report was received that an elevator was flooded on the second basement floor of an officetel in Nonsan.
Fire authorities responded to the emergency call for help and carried out drainage and rescue operations, but one man was found dead.
During the early morning hours, heavy rain poured down in Chungnam, resulting in more than 800 reports of damage. In particular, Seocheon and Nonsan recorded heavy rainfall of 198.6mm and 172.9mm, respectively.
Since the rain began on the 7th, there have been 24 cases of damage, including partially destroyed houses and collapsed retaining walls. In Cheonan, Boryeong, Seosan, Nonsan, and other areas, 30.7 hectares of farmland have been flooded.
Public facilities have also sustained 25 cases of damage, including river embankments being washed away and roads being flooded.
The provincial government has issued a level 2 emergency work order and is on emergency duty, with plans to carry out urgent restoration work in vulnerable areas.
