Former Lawmaker Kim Du-gwan to Run, Primary Election Expected
Former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung will declare his bid for re-election as party leader on the 10th.
Lee's camp announced on the 9th through a press release that a press conference for his candidacy will be held at the party member zone in the Yeouido Central Party Office.
Lee's camp stated, "In the declaration of candidacy, we will present a vision for the Republic of Korea that has been missing and deliver a message of hope to the people," adding, "We plan to announce policy alternatives to overcome the national crisis and restore people's livelihoods through new economic growth."
Since it is rare to run for re-election as party leader, they are expected to put effort into explaining the inevitability of re-election. Lee's camp said, "We will also emphasize plans for party development to lead a more competent and prepared Democratic Party through innovation."
Lee previously resigned as party leader on the 24th of last month. The political circle has interpreted the resignation as a step toward re-election.

At one point, there was talk of Lee being nominated as party leader, but with former lawmaker Kim Doo-kwan declaring his candidacy for the party leadership race, it has taken the form of a primary election. However, given the internal party opinion landscape, the political circle expects Lee to continue his dominant run.
