On the 2nd, LG Uplus held a press briefing at its headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, unveiling its mid- to long-term growth strategy centered on AI for its B2B business. The strategy focuses on advancing AI application services by concentrating on technological innovations in infrastructure, platforms, and data during the B2B business expansion.
First, the core of infrastructure, the data center business, will establish next-generation cooling technology to simultaneously secure server stability and energy efficiency. LG Uplus is expected to own a total of three hyperscale data centers, including an AI data center planned for development in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. Additionally, it will enhance the efficiency of corporate AI server operations by utilizing its self-developed sLLM, Ixigen.
In the on-device AI business, LG Uplus plans to collaborate with the domestic semiconductor design company 'DeepX' to launch AI semiconductors integrated with Ixigen within the year. While maintaining expertise in specific industries, LG Uplus expects to shorten commercialization time and reduce costs compared to existing AI semiconductors.
On-device AI will be introduced into its own businesses such as telecommunications equipment, customer centers, robots, and mobility to strengthen service competitiveness and enhance the usability of various devices owned by LG Group companies.
In the platform business, LG Uplus will continuously advance sLLMs specialized for various industries beyond telecommunications by utilizing Ixigen. Since Ixigen optimizes the number of parameters compared to existing large language models (LLMs), it has the advantage of maintaining expertise in specific industries while enabling rapid and economical AI service construction.
This year, LG Uplus plans to develop sLLM Ixigen specialized for various industries such as finance, education, and security. Depending on the client’s business environment and required AI services, the number of parameters will be segmented and provided in sizes such as 8.8 billion and 25 billion.
In the data domain, LG Uplus will provide AI services specialized by client industry and create a virtuous cycle structure where AI further learns from the data secured to strengthen expertise, thereby enhancing competitiveness.
Through technological innovations in infrastructure, platforms, and data, LG Uplus aims to secure leadership in various AI application services such as AI customer centers, corporate communication, small business store management, and mobility.
The AI customer center will not simply list uniform answers to customer inquiries but will introduce features such as industry-specific customized services, consultation summaries, and automatic classification. In the corporate communication business supporting corporate customer services, LG Uplus plans to launch the 'Communication AX' product in the second half of this year, integrating AI into all communication channels of client companies, including corporate messaging and telephone.
The mobility business will actively utilize AI technology in the freight transport brokerage platform 'Hwamul Itgo.' AI will learn the entire process of platform use, including reservation and dispatch transport data, vehicle status data, and settlement data, providing a one-stop service from dispatch to settlement.
To achieve its AI-centered B2B business strategy, LG Uplus is collaborating extensively with various companies and research institutions. It is expanding its AI ecosystem through partnerships with generative AI startup 'Fortytwo Maru,' AI-based autonomous driving startup 'RideFlux,' DeepX, Amazon Web Services (AWS), KAIST, and others.
Kwon Yong-hyun, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Uplus’s Enterprise Division, stated, "We aim to achieve 2 trillion KRW in sales by 2028," adding, "We are also focusing on securing in-house talent related to AI."
