Expectations for Prevention of Human Rights Violations and Systematic Response
LG Electronics is integrating its human rights policies and expanding the scope of their application.
According to industry sources on the 30th, LG Electronics announced its newly established "Human Rights Principles" on its official website on the 28th. The company consolidated various human rights policies that had been scattered across different areas and expanded the scope to include not only employees and partners but also local communities, customers, governments, and investors.
The LG Electronics Human Rights Principles were established for the first time by integrating various internal human rights policies, recognizing the company's responsibility to respect human rights and respecting relevant international standards. In accordance with the "UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights" (UNGPs), LG Electronics selected key human rights impact areas through human rights impact assessments that consider self-assessments, third-party audits and on-site inspections, grievance handling, and stakeholder communication, and specifically stated these in the Human Rights Principles. These areas include prohibition of discrimination and harassment, prohibition of forced labor, prohibition of child labor, working hours, wages and welfare, diversity and inclusion, and ethics of artificial intelligence (AI).
LG Electronics expects that by establishing these principles, it will be able to proactively identify and prevent potential human rights violations of stakeholders and respond more systematically to impacts that have already occurred.
In particular, with the passage of the "European Union (EU) Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive" in the EU Parliament plenary session last April, the importance of human rights management is being highlighted globally. Companies are also aiming for sustainable growth through this and plan to respond promptly to human rights-related issues in the global market.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics disclosed the vision of its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management activities and the performance and achievement strategies of six major strategic tasks to realize "Better Life for All" through the "2023-2024 Sustainability Management Report."
