NewJeans' Side: "Police Investigating Threatening Posts About Stabbing... Strengthening Safety Measures"
NewJeans Threatened with Knife Attack Ahead of Japan Fan Meeting
ADOR "Preparing Enhanced Security Measures"
Controversy arose after a post threatening a stabbing attack against the idol group NewJeans was uploaded, and the agency stated, "The police are currently investigating the matter."
On the 26th, NewJeans' agency ADOR said, "We are currently preparing enhanced safety measures with the Japanese concert organizer," adding, "The police are investigating domestically, and we are actively cooperating with the investigation."
Earlier, on the 24th, a post titled "Bought this to use if NewJeans holds a concert" was uploaded on a domestic online community. The poster, identified as A, shared a photo of a Japanese-style knife and wrote, "I plan to give one to each member when they get off the van."
However, the photo of the Japanese-style knife does not appear to have been taken by A but rather captured from a product promotion image on an online sales site. It has not been confirmed whether A actually planned to commit the crime. The post has since been deleted.
NewJeans fans who saw the post have uploaded verification posts on social media stating that they reported it to the police. Netizens also responded with comments such as "We hope for severe punishment," "What wrong did NewJeans do to you," "How lightly do you take the law to post such pictures as a joke," and "Catch them and prosecute criminally."
Meanwhile, NewJeans will hold a fan meeting titled "Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome" at Tokyo Dome in Japan on the 26th and 27th. The agency said, "We will do our utmost to ensure the artists can carry out their activities safely."

This is not the first time a terror threat has been made against idols. Last month, a terror threat post targeting IVE's Jang Wonyoung sparked controversy. At that time, the agency Starship Entertainment stated, "A post threatening the safety of our artist IVE's Jang Wonyoung was uploaded on a community," adding, "The post, which specified the date and time of the crime, was reported to the police, and the police have begun investigating the poster."
