"Unblocked and Clearly Visible"... Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Rainwater Inlet Maintenance
Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 24th that it has carried out extensive environmental improvements and maintenance on rainwater inlets in the area in preparation for heavy summer rains.
Rainwater inlets are important facilities for preventing urban flooding, but they are often clogged by fallen leaves, trash, and other debris, weakening their drainage function.
Gwangsan-gu is conducting focused maintenance on rainwater inlets to prevent such issues during this summer's rainfall.
In particular, to prevent difficulties in drainage caused by sediment covering the rainwater inlets, guide signs have been installed to make the locations of the inlets easily identifiable.
Gwangsan-gu has a total of 30,237 rainwater inlets, and it installed pillar-type or attached guide signs on 212 rainwater inlets across 11 sections, mainly on major roads in flood-prone areas such as the Advanced Lotte Mart intersection, Veterans Hospital and Pyeongdong Station, and around Singa Hospital.
With the installation of these signs, it is expected that rapid response will be possible in cases where rainwater inlets are blocked and water does not drain properly.
Gwangsan-gu also completed inspections and cleaning, including removal of fallen leaves and sediment, for 12,501 locations by May.
Based on citizen reports and participation through apps like the Safety Report App, the district plans to continuously monitor and maintain the condition of rainwater inlets.
