Woo Won-sik "Constitutional Amendment Needed for 5-Year Single Presidential Term... Must End Extreme Confrontation"
Kwanhun Club Invitational Debate
"Reduced Space for Conflict Resolution"
Emphasis on Field, Dialogue, Balance, and Attitude
Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won-sik stated on the 24th, "Through constitutional amendment, we must eliminate the elements of conflict inherent in the five-year single-term system and break the chain of extreme political and emotional confrontations in the power structure."
At a Kwanhun Club invitation discussion held at the Seoul Press Center that morning, Speaker Woo said, "The extreme conflicts and confrontations aimed at presidential power are now expanding beyond the legislature to public squares, and from politicians to fervent supporters."
He began by saying, "While the means to amplify conflicts have increased, the spaces to mediate and arbitrate conflicts have decreased," adding, "It seems that conflict has become an environment surrounding our lives and the daily routines of ordinary citizens."
He continued, "The National Assembly is no different in being within the sphere of intense conflict. Sometimes the Assembly becomes the source of conflict, and other times it acts as a proxy for conflict," explaining, "As conflicts grow, political distrust deepens, and the result leads to the public's disappointment and discouragement regarding a better life."

We are researching ways to activate field-centered politics at the National Assembly level," and emphasized, "Furthermore, social dialogue, and ultimately social grand compromise, must be transformed into new growth engines."
