"Wearing Pants Down, Writing Names with Buttocks"... Controversy Over Abuse of Elementary Students at English Academy
Instructor Teases Children with Nicknames
Admits Behavior While Introducing as Education Expert
An English academy instructor for lower-grade elementary students has sparked controversy by ordering a student to "take off pants and write their name with their buttocks" as a punishment during class. On the 21st, a post titled "Ridiculous English Academy That Told Kids to Take Off Pants" was uploaded on the online community BobaeDream. The author, Mr. A, began by saying, "This happened to my son, who is a lower-grade elementary student, at the language academy."
Mr. A explained, "One day, my child was stomping his feet, biting his hands, and had lost a fingernail. When I asked what was wrong, he said, 'Can I not go to the academy? I want to die. I'm scared,' so I realized something was wrong." He continued, "The male homeroom teacher at the academy gave a vocabulary test at the start of each class, and since my child didn’t reach a certain score, from the next day, he was told to take off his pants and write his name with his buttocks in front of his friends as a punishment. Only my child was made to do this. I guess he had the lowest score. If he failed, he had to do it every day after that."
At first, Mr. A was so shocked that he didn’t believe it, but after confirming again with his child, the child said, "It’s true. They said I absolutely couldn’t refuse. After class, when I was going home, they said it again. It’s really humiliating. Can I not go tomorrow? Also, the teacher gave me a nickname and teased me." Mr. A expressed disbelief, saying, "Asking him to take off his pants is a serious issue, but making him expose himself in front of friends and write his name with his buttocks is even worse. The teacher should have stopped the teasing when friends gave nicknames, but instead, the teacher gave a nickname and teased the student." Meanwhile, the instructor, Mr. B, introduced himself as a child psychology and education expert and admitted to his actions. When Mr. A asked, "Why did you tease him with a nickname?" Mr. B retorted, "Did you tell the mother about that too?"
Later, realizing the seriousness of the situation after his child repeatedly expressed distress, Mr. A contacted the academy. Although he tried to speak with the academy director by phone, he failed and instead spoke with the head of the academic department. He revealed the conversation, saying, "The head of the academic department laughed and said, 'It seems like it was done to make the class atmosphere fun. The teacher would never do such a thing,' so I said, 'Is this something to laugh about?' and then they realized the seriousness of the matter." He added, "The offending instructor is being judged for emotional child abuse and is under investigation along with sexual harassment charges. Lastly, he shared that the child is currently attending a psychiatric clinic and a psychological center, receiving long-term treatment due to damaged self-esteem and anxiety."
Netizens who read the story left comments such as, "This is a really strange academy," "Do they still do this in this day and age?" "If true, this could be a lifelong trauma for the child," and "Legal action is important, but the child’s psychological treatment should be prioritized."
