The Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Project is a Gyeonggi Province-style urban regeneration initiative prioritized by Governor Kim Dong-yeon to revitalize aging original downtown areas excluded from redevelopment in first-generation new towns and other old planned cities.
Gyeonggi Province conducted written and face-to-face evaluations and on-site inspections for 14 sites in 11 cities and counties that participated in the public contest. After a comprehensive announcement evaluation on the 19th, seven sites in seven cities and counties were selected. The province will support these development projects with a total of 20 billion KRW.
Among the project sites, infrastructure establishment projects will be promoted in five locations: Wonpyeong-dong in Pyeongtaek City, Anyang 4-dong in Anyang City, Gunja-dong in Siheung City, Uijeongbu-dong in Uijeongbu City, and Sutaek-dong in Guri City. Meanwhile, the main projects will be carried out in two locations: Yangpyeong-eup in Yangpyeong County and Sinsan-ri in Yangju City.
The Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Project focuses on revitalizing local communities and commercial districts to enhance sustainability, presenting differentiated strategies to realize the three major administrative goals of the 8th term of local government: more, fairer, and better opportunities.
For projects not selected this year, Gyeonggi Province plans to provide continuous consulting to maintain enthusiasm for urban regeneration and help them reapply next year.
Kim Tae-su, Director of Urban Regeneration at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "As the Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Project enters its second year and expands to 20 sites across 16 cities and counties, it has established itself as a representative project in the province. As the number of projects increases, we will also thoroughly manage project implementation to ensure residents can feel the benefits."
