Eunpyeong-gu Provides Bottled Water to Mobile Workers During Heatwave
Free Water Bottles Provided Until 6,000 Bottles Are Distributed as Part of Heatwave Damage Prevention Efforts
Water and Heat Illness Prevention Supplies Offered at Eunpyeong-gu Workers' Comprehensive Support Center
Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it will hold a bottled water sharing campaign to protect the health rights of outdoor workers in collaboration with the Eunpyeong-gu Workers' Comprehensive Support Center.
This year, Eunpyeong-gu has secured three times the amount compared to last year and will provide 6,000 bottles of water free of charge until supplies run out. One bottle of water will be provided per person per day, and workers can freely take bottled water from the iceboxes placed at the entrance of the Eunpyeong-gu Workers' Comprehensive Support Center.
Now in its fourth year, this campaign involves participation from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office, Seoul Metropolitan Weather Agency, Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency Seoul Regional Headquarters, Community Chest of Korea, and Seoul Labor Center Council, with sponsorship from Lotte Chilsung Beverage, Elegant Youth, and Nature Dream.
The bottled water distribution locations include 18 Seoul municipal and district labor centers and 4 mobile worker rest shelters (Seocho, Bukchang, Hapjeong, Nokbeon), totaling 27 sites. The ice water map can be checked on the notice board of the Eunpyeong-gu Workers' Comprehensive Support Center website.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “As global warming has caused the heatwave to start rapidly, heat-related illnesses among outdoor mobile workers are a concern. Please remember the three key rules for preventing heat-related illnesses during heatwaves: water, shade, and rest. We hope that the cool bottled water will provide some vitality.”
