Naju City Successfully Hosts the 4th General Hong Beom-do Cup Shooting Competition
Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Yoon Byung-tae) announced on the 18th that the 4th General Hong Beom-do Shooting Competition was successfully held at the Jeollanam-do Comprehensive Shooting Range from the 5th to the 11th.
This competition was established by the General Hong Beom-do Memorial Association (Chairman Woo Won-sik) in 2021 to reexamine the life and achievements of General Hong Beom-do (1868?1943), a prominent hero in the history of the independence movement whose historical evaluation was limited after liberation.

Especially, starting this year, the competition was elevated to a national team selection event, raising expectations as a gateway for promising shooters nationwide aspiring to represent the country and promote national prestige.
A total of 378 teams and approximately 2,700 athletes participated in 14 events across elementary, middle, high school, university, and general divisions.
In the men’s general division skeet (team) event, the Chungnam Sports Council scored a total of 364 points, breaking the previous Korean record of 362 points.
In the women’s general division 50m rifle (team) event, the Armed Forces Athletic Corps scored 1868.3 points, and Cheongju City Hall scored 1870.2 points, consecutively surpassing the previous record of 1867.7 points, achieving remarkable new records.
Kim Dong-jun from Hwanil High School achieved an astonishing six titles, including first place in the 50m pistol event.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “I am very honored that the General Hong Beom-do Shooting Competition, elevated to a national team selection event, was held in the patriotic city of Naju,” adding, “We will continue to strive to attract national sports competitions that invigorate the local economy.”
Meanwhile, the city estimated that hosting this competition generated an economic ripple effect of approximately 840 million KRW in the local economy.
In particular, in the first half of this year alone, Naju hosted 16 national and provincial-level sports events, including the National Men’s and Women’s Inline Speed Skating Competition, Naju Yeongsangang Marathon, Taesan Cup National Squash Championship, Presidential Cup National Cycling Competition, and National Corporate Track and Field Competition, revitalizing the local economy through restaurants, accommodations, tourism, and more.
