The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage's Center for Conservation Science of Cultural Heritage will hold an international academic symposium titled "Asian Regional Murals: Conservation Techniques and Reprocessing Methodologies" on the 19th at the ICC Hotel in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. This event will share research achievements on the 'Buseoksa Josadang Mural,' the oldest temple mural in Korea, and provide an opportunity to understand international trends in mural conservation techniques. Experts from both domestic and abroad will be invited to discuss conservation techniques and methodologies focusing on Asian regional murals.
The keynote lecture will be delivered by Professor Han Kyung-soon of Konkuk University. Under the theme "Achievements and Future of Korean Mural Conservation," the lecture will review the history of temple mural conservation treatments from the Japanese colonial period to the present and revisit the significance of each period. Subsequent presentations will cover topics such as restoration of murals from Central Asian archaeological excavations, development of repair materials suitable for earthen murals, studies on conservation and restoration of ancient murals in Chinese temples, trends in Korean mural analysis and diagnostic technologies, and damage and reprocessing measures for Korean temple murals.
