Daejeon Yuseong Hotel Architectural Significance Highlighted at Academic Forum
Presentation and Discussion Facilitation
Daejeon City will hold an academic forum on the 19th in the city hall seminar room to highlight the architectural significance ahead of the demolition of the 58-year-old Yuseong Tourist Hotel.
The forum, themed "The Cultural Diversity of Yuseong Hot Springs and Yuseong Hotel," will reexamine the architectural significance of Yuseong Hotel along with the history of Yuseong Hot Springs.
Kim Jeong-dong, director of the Institute of Modern Korean Architectural Culture, will present on the historical significance of modern hot springs; Hwang Min-hye, cultural heritage expert of Daejeon City, will discuss architectural features; and Lee Sang-hee, professor at Mokwon University, will speak on the spread of hot spring culture and space.
The comprehensive discussion will include Choi Young-taek, member of the National Heritage Committee of the Cultural Heritage Administration; Kim Yoon-jung, CEO of Uri Culture Sharing; and Lee Ki-wook, cultural heritage expert of Daejeon City, sharing diverse opinions.
Daejeon City plans to complete the archiving of the documentation survey based on the in-depth research content of the academic forum.

No Gi-su, director of the Culture and Tourism Bureau, said, "Yuseong Hotel is more than just an accommodation facility; it is a symbolic building that holds memories of Daejeon citizens, including being designated as the first hot spring tourism special zone in Korea in 1994 and as the Daejeon athletes' hotel for the 1988 Seoul Olympics." He added, "This academic forum will not only raise interest in Yuseong Hot Springs but also provide an opportunity to newly recognize the value of Daejeon's modern and contemporary architectural heritage."
