Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will provide a total of 20 million KRW in support from June for welfare and health specialized projects at the neighborhood community centers to discover new welfare blind spots.
The district is currently promoting various new projects to identify new welfare blind spots that have emerged due to recent social structural changes, such as single-person households, young family caregivers, and middle-aged individuals who have been marginalized but require support.
Among these efforts, the role of the neighborhood community centers, which are the frontline sites directly meeting residents, is seen as needing further strengthening. In particular, Gangnam-gu is divided by Yangjaecheon Stream, with the southern area densely populated by permanent rental apartment complexes, while Yeoksam-dong and Nonhyeon-dong have a high proportion of single-person households. Since the provision of welfare services and their demand vary significantly by neighborhood, region-specific projects are increasingly necessary.
Above all, the neighborhood centers have the capacity to serve as platforms where local welfare service users and supporting resources gather, enabling the participation of local residents and private companies.
Therefore, it is expected that through this support for neighborhood-specific specialized projects, Gangnam-style ESG practices involving cooperation with the private sector will be realized in each neighborhood.
On April, applications were received from 22 neighborhoods, and through a review committee, seven neighborhoods were finally selected. ▲Suseo and Segok-dong will promote welfare and health activation projects to strengthen the self-management capabilities of vulnerable groups.
Ilwon 1-dong will form a public-private network with the Merchants' Association of the Taste Street and conduct a project to discover and support socially vulnerable households. Yeoksam 1-dong will collaborate between welfare planners and visiting nurses to implement a project preventing solitary deaths among single-person households.
Gaepo 1 and 2-dong, and Samsung 2-dong will work with related institutions such as the Gangnam-gu Well-Aging Center and welfare centers to promote digital medication management and dementia prevention programs.
