Changwon Health Center Holds Lecture on "Understanding Metabolic Syndrome and Health Management" for Gyeongnam Police Officers
Changwon Public Health Center in Gyeongnam held a health lecture on the prevention and management of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases for Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency employees at the main auditorium on the first floor of Jeongbyeonggwan on the 14th.
For this health lecture, Kim Hosu, head of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Changwon Fatima Hospital, was invited to give a lecture on "Understanding Metabolic Syndrome and Health Management Methods," focusing on the proper understanding of metabolic syndrome and methods to prevent metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.
Metabolic syndrome refers to a condition in which three or more symptoms of adult diseases, such as abdominal obesity, hypertension, impaired fasting glucose, and dyslipidemia, occur simultaneously in one person due to chronic metabolic disorders.
This disease can develop from unhealthy lifestyle habits such as Westernized diet, lack of exercise, stress, alcohol consumption, and smoking. The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes that up to 80% of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases can be prevented through health management such as lifestyle improvement.
Changwon Public Health Center operates health lectures on the prevention and management of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases to provide accurate information to local residents, and offers a variety of health promotion services including chronic disease management, nutrition, physical activity, smoking cessation, and oral health.
Jung Hyejeong, head of Changwon Public Health Center, said, "Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are among the top 10 causes of death, but they can be prevented through proper management of hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia, as well as lifestyle improvement. I hope this health lecture will serve as an opportunity for greater interest in understanding metabolic syndrome, which is the starting point of major precursor diseases, the necessity of chronic disease management, and the practice of healthy living."
