Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, conducted preemptive pest control operations at Seongsan Stream on the morning of the 14th amid predictions that the invasive pest, the American white moth, could spread significantly this year.
The American white moth damages urban street trees and park trees by feeding on them, causing serious harm to the growth of the trees.
In response, Mayor Park Gang-su personally boarded a pest control vehicle to carry out the operations and urged related departments, saying, "Please conduct thorough pre-inspections and devote full efforts to pest control activities to prevent the occurrence of pests and diseases that cause inconvenience to residents and threaten their health and safety."
He added, "Mapo District will continue to carry out proactive and aggressive pest control measures to protect residents from infectious diseases and pests."
