Yoon In-chon Appoints Twelve Members to the Copyright Commission
On the 14th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism newly appointed twelve members to the Korea Copyright Commission.
The appointees include Kang Seok-won, former Director of Planning and Coordination at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Gye Seung-gyun, Vice President of the Korean Intellectual Property Society; Kim Myung-joo, Professor of Information Security at Seoul Women’s University; Kim Min-jung, Attorney at Law at Law Firm Huimyung; Kim Byung-il, Professor at Hanyang University Law School; Kim Won-hak, Deputy Chief Prosecutor at Daegu District Prosecutors’ Office; Sung Yoon-yong, Adjunct Professor of Practical Music at Yeoju University; Yoon Ju-tak, Attorney at Law at Law Firm Sejong; Lee Sang-ho, Judge at Suwon High Court; Lee Won-bok, Professor at Ewha Womans University Law School; Lim Hyung-joo, Attorney at Law at Law Firm Yulchon; and Jang Hye-won, Attorney at Law at Kim & Chang Law Office. Their term is three years, lasting until June 2027.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism explained, “This is a follow-up measure for the previous members whose terms have expired. To respond to changes in the copyright environment and to balance various interests related to copyright, the commission is composed of experts from diverse fields such as academia, legal profession, cultural industry, and public sector in accordance with Article 112-2 of the Copyright Act.”
The commissioners will carry out tasks such as mediating copyright disputes, reviewing fees and usage rates of copyright consignment management agents, establishing order in the use of copyrighted works, and promoting fair use of works. At the first plenary meeting held on the day, Kang Seok-won was appointed as the 6th Chairperson of the Korea Copyright Commission.

Yoo In-chon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, “I hope that the Korea Copyright Commission will make greater efforts to protect creators’ rights and activate the fair and smooth use of works in new environments such as the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, taking this appointment of new commissioners as an opportunity.”
