Song Miryeong "All-out Effort to Prevent Agricultural Damage from Heavy Rain"…Pre-inspection of Vulnerable Areas
Prompt Support for Rapid Recovery in Case of Damage Occurrence
The government expects a high possibility of heavy rain this summer due to atmospheric instability and plans to conduct pre-inspections of aging reservoirs and landslide-prone areas, while operating a disaster response situation room 24 hours a day.
On the 14th, Song Mi-ryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, inspected the progress of preparations for summer disasters such as heavy rain and typhoons in a joint meeting with related agencies and local governments nationwide at the Agricultural Disaster Countermeasures Situation Room in the Government Complex Sejong.
An official from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs explained, "According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, this summer is expected to have a high possibility of heavy rain due to atmospheric instability, and it is forecasted to be hotter than usual. Therefore, the duration of typhoons staying over the Korean Peninsula is likely to be longer. We need to establish a proactive preparedness posture before the full onset of the rainy season."
Earlier, the Ministry completed pre-inspections of 520 aging reservoirs and a total of 14,000 drainage facilities, as well as vulnerable facilities and areas in various sectors such as horticulture, livestock, quarantine, and landslide prevention to prepare for summer disasters.
In addition, centered on the summer agricultural disaster countermeasures situation room, the ministry will maintain a cooperative system with disaster response agencies including the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, local governments, Rural Development Administration, Korea Forest Service, and NongHyup, and will manage situations 24 hours a day to prepare for disasters.
