Fake Viagra Production of 1.5 Million Pills and Sales... Brothers Who Made 16 Billion KRW Face Trial
Prosecutors Plan to Seize Manufacturing Plant Site
Brothers who manufactured and sold counterfeit erectile dysfunction drugs resembling genuine products have been brought to trial.
The Food and Drug Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Park Hyang-cheol) announced on the 13th that Mr. A, a man in his 60s, was arrested and indicted on charges of violating the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act. The prosecution also indicted his younger brother, Mr. B (late 50s), without detention.
According to the prosecution, the brothers are accused of manufacturing and selling counterfeit erectile dysfunction drugs from September 2020 to March of this year. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety seized 1.5 million counterfeit pills worth approximately 16 billion won from them.
They established a manufacturing plant in a sparsely populated farming area, where they produced 14 types of counterfeit erectile dysfunction drugs, including fake Viagra. The factory was equipped with full production facilities, including raw material mixers, tablet presses, and coating machines.
The prosecution plans to confiscate the buildings and land owned by them, which were used as the manufacturing plant, to prevent the recurrence of similar crimes.
