Changwon Culture Complex Town Confirms Basic Direction to Expand Operations from K-pop to K-culture Content
Providing Citizen Services Through Performances, Exhibitions, Education, and Experiences
Planned and Operated by Utilizing Experts and Commissioned by the Changwon Cultural Foundation
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam recently finalized the 'Basic Operational Direction for Changwon Culture Complex Town,' as reviewed by the Changwon Culture Complex Town Operations Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Operations Committee), following the revision of relevant ordinances in March to expand the facility's functions from being limited to K-pop to a variety of cultural contents.
This plan was established through consultations with experts in management, culture, and content, as well as four sessions of the Operations Committee, and includes details on operational content and facility management.
First, unlike in 2016 when projects were promoted based on K-pop, the 'operational content' will now be expanded to K-culture, taking into account the changing trends in the cultural market and citizens' cultural demands.
Various Korean Wave contents such as K-pop, trot, food, and beauty will be offered in diverse ways through performances, exhibitions, education, and hands-on experiences.
The city also announced plans to establish educational environments tailored to different age groups and skill levels to meet the demand for K-culture, thereby expanding cultural education opportunities that are lacking compared to the Seoul metropolitan area, and to lower barriers to access so that anyone can visit the facility year-round.
For 'facility operation,' the city will entrust management to the Changwon Cultural Foundation to ensure both public interest and expertise, and the foundation will hire professionals to oversee and operate the cultural space.
Changwon City and the Changwon Cultural Foundation will sign a management entrustment agreement in the second half of the year and amend the foundation's articles of association to establish a new operational organization.
Additionally, the Changwon Cultural Foundation plans to accelerate the process by recruiting external experts and other personnel through public announcements, establishing detailed operational plans, and launching pilot operations in the first half of next year.
Kim Hyunsoo, Director of Economic and Employment Affairs, stated, "We have revised the relevant ordinances to expand the facility's functions and established the basic operational direction, so we will do our best to normalize the project," adding, "In particular, we will focus our administrative efforts on developing the Culture Complex Town not just as a 'K-pop space' but as a 'K-culture space' that can become a source of pride for Changwon."
