Leaders of NDA-affiliated parties and newly elected members of parliament attending the meeting unanimously elected Modi as the NDA leader.
Earlier, the NDA secured 293 seats out of the total 543 seats in the Lok Sabha in the general election held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1, winning more than half of the seats. However, the NDA failed to achieve the landslide victory it had initially expected. The BJP alone secured only 240 seats.
On the other hand, the opposition political alliance led by the Indian National Congress (INC), the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), performed well and secured 232 seats. The INC alone won 99 seats.
