On the 7th, Suwon City announced that it has organized and will operate the 24-Hour Road Flooding Rapid Response Team consisting of 5 response units, 15 teams, and 167 personnel to prevent road flooding damage caused by unpredictable heavy rains.
The rapid response team is activated when weather alerts such as heavy rain advisories, heavy rain warnings, or typhoons are issued, managing a total of 951 km of roads and 277 road facilities within the jurisdiction.
In particular, when a weather alert is issued, the team patrols flood-prone facilities for frequent inspections, and if flooding occurs, they immediately cooperate with the police to control the facilities and guide citizens to evacuate safely. Each response unit also promptly dispatches to the site to carry out drainage measures.
Suwon City is investing 8.55 billion KRW to install entry blocking facilities by 2025 at 17 U-shaped underground underpasses at risk of flooding. Additionally, 3.2 billion KRW will be spent on safety inspections of roads and road facilities, dredging, and inspection and replacement of electrical facilities (pumps) to prepare for safety accidents. Furthermore, 11.8 billion KRW will be invested after the rainy season for safety inspections, repairs, and reinforcement of roads and road facilities.
