Dongjak-gu Undertakes Major Maintenance of Tangled 'Gongjung Cable' Like Spider Web
Sangdo 1·3-dong and Heukseok-dong Area's 3.9km of Overhead Lines Organized... Selected for Pilot Project of Shared Inlet Facilities
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced that it will begin full-scale maintenance of aerial cables this month, which spoil the urban landscape and threaten pedestrian safety.
The "Aerial Cable Maintenance Project" involves bundling and organizing wires such as electric and communication lines tangled like cobwebs on roads or buildings, or removing unnecessary cables.
Previously, the district conducted demand and status surveys for maintenance zones by neighborhood and selected priority areas with many maintenance requests, such as narrow alleys and areas near old residential neighborhoods, after on-site inspections.
The district plans to invest 2.18 billion KRW this year (borne by telecommunication operators) to maintain 934 utility poles and 3.9 km of aerial cables in the Sangdo 1-dong, Sangdo 3-dong, and Heukseok-dong areas. This represents a 44% increase in utility pole maintenance and a 50% increase in aerial cable volume compared to the previous year.
The district will cooperate with seven organizations, including Korea Electric Power Corporation and broadcasting and telecommunication operators, to complete tasks such as ▲removal of abandoned and defective lines ▲organization of proliferated service lines ▲maintenance of excessively installed broadcasting and telecommunication facilities by the end of the year.
In particular, the district will designate dedicated public officials for maintenance zones by neighborhood to reflect local residents' opinions and provide guidance on cooperation matters, establishing a prompt and accurate on-site response system.
Additionally, the district was selected earlier this year for the "Service Line Sharing Pilot Project" led by the Ministry of Science and ICT, striving to create a cleaner street environment.
This project aims to prevent cable proliferation by installing shared enclosures and shared distributors on utility poles and building rooftops, respectively, and integrating communication lines connecting utility poles to buildings into a single line through service line sharing.
The district conducted on-site inspections targeting 600 utility poles and 6 km of aerial cables in the Sadang 1-dong and 4-dong areas, selected as pilot regions, and plans to start construction next month.
