"Gangseo-gu to Hold 'Research Seminar' on the 4th Calling for Relaxed Altitude Restrictions at Gimpo Airport"
Held at National Aviation Museum in Gonghang-dong
District Mayor: "We Will Find a Solution to Easing Height Restrictions"
Experts gather to establish optimal altitude restriction relaxation standards tailored to the characteristics of Gimpo Airport. Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 3rd that it will hold a seminar titled “Study on the Application Plan of Gimpo Airport According to the Revision of ICAO International Standards” at 2 p.m. on the 4th at the National Aviation Museum in Gonghang-dong.
Based on the opinions gathered at this seminar, Gangseo-gu plans to prepare the optimal altitude restriction relaxation standards suited to Gimpo Airport’s characteristics by the end of this month and submit the results to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to request priority reflection. Additionally, it will cooperate jointly with Seoul City and local governments near Gimpo Airport to ensure the early implementation of altitude restriction relaxation.
At the seminar, Jeong Jong-cheol, Asiana Airlines Chief Captain, Kwak Soo-min, Adjunct Professor at Korea Aerospace University, and Yoon Sung-hyuk, Senior Researcher at the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, will present on ICAO international trends and the application plan for obstacle limitation surfaces at Gimpo Airport.
The seminar will include thematic presentations on ▲ ICAO international trends and comparison of major revisions ▲ Application plan for new obstacle limitation surfaces at Gimpo Airport ▲ Understanding aeronautical review systems and overseas application cases, followed by an open discussion on altitude restriction relaxation.
Gangseo-gu has 40.3㎢, accounting for 97.3% of its total area, subject to altitude restrictions limiting building heights. As a result, there are many constraints on balanced regional development and residents’ property rights.
In this regard, the district has been conducting a comprehensive analysis of flight procedures operated at Gimpo Airport and the ICAO international standard revisions since February to develop altitude restriction relaxation standards aimed at early implementation.
