The Love for Soccer Shown Before 'Golttae-nyeo' Existed... Lee Cheon-su and Won Hee-ryong's Moment of Reevaluation
"Won Hee-ryong, Sincere About Expanding Women's Soccer Base"
"I Don't Know Politics or Left and Right, But I Know People"
Former soccer player Lee Cheon-su revealed the reason why he joined Won Hee-ryong's campaign during the 22nd general election. On the 27th, a video featuring Lee Cheon-su and his wife Shim Ha-eun was uploaded on the YouTube channel 'Richunsu.' On that day, Shim said, "Can I talk about that? During the election campaign?" and then started, "Some people say he switches parties back and forth, but my husband originally has no party affiliation."
Shim said, "My husband is sincere about soccer. In my family, my mom and dad belong to different parties, but even during the formal meeting and up until now, no one talks about parties. They just respect each other. Since my husband sees both as similar, he doesn't look at the party but at the person." She added, "When he first called me, I cursed him saying, 'Are you crazy?' But he said it wasn't about the party and that he had met Won Hee-ryong in Jeju Island a long time ago. I know that, but people don't, right?"

In response, Lee Cheon-su recalled around 2016, saying, "The World Cup members went to Jeju Island. There was a program where we went to schools to play soccer games to expand the base of women's soccer. After we went, Jeju provided more support for soccer and women's soccer." He continued, "If I had only cared about the top players, the national team, I would have been the same person. But that was before 'Golddaenyeo' exploded and before women's soccer rose. I have always been interested in youth soccer, and Jeju provided tremendous support. They built many sports fields and did well with training camps."
He also said, "'We need to develop soccer like this,' 'The reason training camps always go to Southeast Asia is because it's warm. Jeju is warm, but they can't come because there are no sports fields, so we need to fix that.' They changed it immediately," adding, "Seeing this, I thought, 'This person is okay,' so I came this way. That's why I helped."
Previously, during the 21st general election in 2020, Lee Cheon-su helped Song Young-gil, the Democratic Party candidate (currently leader of the Sonamu Party). Regarding this, he confessed in an interview with a media outlet, "Leader Song is a benefactor in my soccer life. I was a player with many problems, right? I wandered here and there and was almost abandoned by the soccer world. He helped me get my act together, return to the field, and retire properly. It was only right to help with his election."

Regarding why he supported former Minister Won, the People Power Party candidate in the 22nd general election, he said, "I don't support any party. I don't know politics or left and right. But Gyeyang is where I grew up, where I first started playing soccer, and where friends I played soccer with still live. It's like my hometown. To escape from being an underdeveloped area and develop, I thought a capable and strong worker should come." He added, "Honestly, I advised him not to come to Gyeyang. The Democratic Party is so strong that it would be hard to win. But if he insisted on coming, I wanted to help."
